Trump calls LaVar Ball 'ungrateful fool'

(TSX / STATS) -- President Donald Trump criticized LaVar Ball again for downplaying his role in bringing home three UCLA basketball players, including Ball's son, after a recent shoplifting incident in China during a team trip.

Earlier this week in his ongoing dispute with Ball, Trump said of the freshmen players: "I should have left them in jail."

On Wednesday morning, two days after Ball appeared on CNN, Trump called him as an "ungrateful fool" and "just a poor man's version of Don King, but without the hair" in a series of tweets.


Louisville won't play star recruit Bowen

(TSX / STATS) -- Louisville announced Wednesday that freshman Brian Bowen, tied to the Rick Pitino firing and one of the players at the center of the FBI probe into corruption in college basketball, will never play for the Cardinals.

Bowen, a former McDonald's All-American, will be provided written permission by Louisville to transfer to another school if he chooses. He will remain on scholarship as long as he is at Louisville but can't practice with the team, according to the university.


Vols top No. 18 Purdue in OT in Bahamas

(TSX / STATS) -- Grant Williams scored with 14.5 seconds remaining in overtime and James Daniel sank two free throws with two seconds to go as Tennessee upset No. 18 Purdue 78-75 in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas on Wednesday.

Williams scored all 22 of his points after halftime and Lamonte Turner added 17 for the Volunteers (3-0), who outscored Purdue 8-2 in the final 1:31. Turner forced overtime with a tying 3-pointer with 5.1 seconds remaining in regulation.


Chaminade stuns Cal 96-72 in Maui

(TSX / STATS) -- Dantley Walker scored 23 points, including seven 3-pointers, and host Chaminade stunned California 96-72 Wednesday in the seventh-place game at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational at Lahaina Civic Center in Hawaii.

Erik Scheive added 14 points off the bench, and Austin Pope finished with 12 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Silverswords (3-2), who picked up their eighth win all-time in the Maui Invitational and first since 2012.


Seminoles push home winning streak to 23

(TSX / STATS) -- TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida State men's basketball team extended one of the nation's longest home winning streaks to 23 games Wednesday afternoon with a pre-Thanksgiving Day rout of Kennesaw State 98-79 at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Florida State (4-0) went undefeated last season at home and cruised Wednesday to earn the latest win on its home floor.


Bohannon's 30, Cook's 29 power Iowa

(TSX / STATS) -- Jordan Bohannon scored a career-high 30 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range, to lead Iowa to a 95-85 win over Alabama-Birmingham in the seventh-place game of the Cayman Islands Classic on Wednesday.

Bohannan also made all six of his free throws for the Hawkeyes (4-2), who salvaged a win out of the tournament after losing to Louisiana and South Dakota State.


Mizzou's Porter to undergo back surgery

(TSX / STATS) -- Highly touted Missouri prospect Michael Porter Jr. will undergo spinal surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the season, the university announced Tuesday afternoon.

Porter, a freshman forward who is projected to be a high pick in next year's NBA draft, was scheduled to have a microdiscectomy of the L3 and L4 spinal discs performed on Tuesday.


UCLA tops Wisconsin on Holiday's layup

(TSX / STATS) -- KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Aaron Holiday dreamed about nights like Tuesday night.

He hit the game-winning layup as time expired to lift No. 23 UCLA past Wisconsin 72-70 in the consolation game of the 2017 CBE Hall of Fame Classic on Tuesday night at Sprint Center.


No. 3 KU has school-record 19 3s in rout

(TSX / STATS) -- LAWRENCE, Kansas -- Kansas coach Bill Self said he could not have cared less that his team set a school record for 3-pointers Tuesday night against Texas Southern.

Self's third-ranked Jayhawks set the record with 19 makes behind the arc in routing Texas Southern 114-71 in Allen Fieldhouse.


Irish drub LSU to reach Maui title game

(TSX / STATS) -- T.J. Gibbs scored 26 points, and No. 13 Notre Dame blew past LSU 92-53 Tuesday in a semifinal game at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational at Lahaina Civic Center in Lahaina, Hawaii.

Matt Farrell added 17 points and seven assists, and Bonzie Colson finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five steals for the Fighting Irish (5-0). Notre Dame advances to take on No. 6 Wichita State in the tournament championship game on Wednesday.
