NCAA rules Arizona's Trier ineligible

Arizona's Allonzo Trier has been declared ineligible for the reappearance of a banned substance that led to a 19-game suspension last season.

The NCAA notified the school on Thursday that the preseason All-America junior guard tested positive for trace amount of the substance late last month.

Arizona says the amount detected was minuscule by scientific standards and appeared to be a remnant of the undisclosed performance-enhancing drug Trier said he unknowingly ingested last season. The NCAA agreed, the school said.

Duke C Bolden to play after nose surgery

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Duke center Marques Bolden is not expected to miss any time after he had surgery on a broken nasal bone.

Team spokesman Mike DeGeorge said Bolden had surgery Thursday. He got hurt Sunday in a win at Clemson and played 16 minutes Wednesday night against Louisville.

Seton Hall tops Friars in resumed game

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Khadeen Carrington had 25 points and Seton Hall held off Providence College 89-77 on Thursday in a game suspended because of a slippery floor.

Referees halted play at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, which doubles as an ice hockey rink, because of unsafe conditions with 13:03 left in the second half on Wednesday night. The game resumed Thursday at Alumni Hall on the Providence campus with Seton Hall leading 56-47.

Pitino: Louisville should take on NCAA

Former Louisville coach Rick Pitino believes the school should take legal action against the NCAA after the governing body nullified the Cardinals of the 2013 men's basketball title.

Pitino, speaking from his attorney's offices in New York, said that the NCAA's decision to have Louisville vacate the title as part of sanctions for a sex scandal was unfair.

Virginia secures top seed in ACC tourney

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) Top-ranked Virginia accomplished its first goal of the season. The next ones on the list will only get more difficult.

Ty Jerome scored 18 points and the Cavaliers held off depleted Georgia Tech 65-54 on Wednesday night, clinching at least a share of the regular season title and the top seed next month in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

Oklahoma State stuns No. 6 Texas Tech

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma State rewarded fans who braved the snow and ice with a memorable experience.

Kendall Smith scored 21 points to help the Cowboys stun No. 6 Texas Tech 79-71 on Wednesday night. Many students who were part of the crowd of 7,092 rushed the court after the game, though it was tame by Oklahoma State's standards.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Grayson Allen took care of the scoring for No. 5 Duke. Everyone pitched in at the other end of the floor.

A 2-3 zone - of all things - has the Blue Devils playing perhaps their best defense of the season.

Bridges' 27 help No. 3 Villanova cruise

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Phil Booth returned to Villanova's lineup, and it looked as if he never left.

Booth had 14 points in his comeback from a broken right hand that sidelined him for seven games, and Mikal Bridges scored 27 points to lead No. 3 Villanova to a 93-62 victory over DePaul on Wednesday night.

No. 4 Xavier downs Hoyas to bounce back

WASHINGTON (AP) Despite winning four straight games in the nation's capital, Xavier coach Chris Mack is happy that the Big East has never held its conference tournament in DC.

His leading scorer, Trevon Bluiett, has scored over 2,000 points in his Musketeers career but he's combined for just three points in his last two visits to Washington.
