Wood's goal lifts Burnley past Palace

Chris Wood's goal during his full Premier League debut gave Burnley a 1-0 win against a winless Crystal Palace at Turf Moor on a windy Sunday afternoon.

Burnley were gifted the lead three minutes in when Lee Chung-yong played a dreadful backpass, which Wood was able to latch onto and fire past Wayne Hennessey.

Burnley then sat back and allowed the visitors to come attack them, with Palace barely threatening in the first half. Christian Benteke headed horribly wide, and Scott Dann went close, with efforts cleared off the line. Dann had a chance to equalise in the dying minutes of the game, but couldn't direct his headed effort on target.

Burnley keeper Tom Heaton was forced off midway through the first half after a robust challenge, seeing youngster Nick Pope make his debut.

Palace are now without a win in their opening four games.
