(TSX / STATS) -- Unrestricted free agent forward Drew Stafford signed a one-year contract worth $800,000 with the New Jersey Devils on Friday.

Stafford collected eight goals and 13 assists in 58 games last season with the Winnipeg Jets and Boston Bruins last season. The 31-year-old recorded eight points (four goals, four assists) in 18 contests after he was traded to the Bruins on March 1 for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2018 draft.

Stafford has notched 183 goals and 217 assists in 725 career regular-season games with the Bruins, Jets and Buffalo after being selected by the Sabres with the 13th overall pick of the 2004 draft.

Stafford's presence could soften the blow for a New Jersey team that will be without center Travis Zajac for the first four months of the season. Zajac had surgery on Aug. 17 to repair a torn left pectoral muscle.
